The area surrounding the Domaine de Graillefiot is
amazing. Within a radius of 30 kilometres, it is possible
to discover hill-top villages, the Ducal city of Uzès,
the Papal City of Avignon and the capricious Ardèche
River.
Of course, first and foremost, there is the Pont du Gard,
one of the most famous French monuments in the world.
The stone arches of this visible reminder of Roman engineering
have been standing over the Gardon River for the past 2000
years.
A few kilometres from this ancient monument, the light
coloured stonework of Uzès, the first Dukedom of
France, glows in the generous sunlight of our region. A
leisurely stroll through its streets will lead you to the
famous Place aux Herbes, with its beautiful mansion houses.
Uzès is a typical Provencal town, with streets lined
with plane trees, through which the sun plays never-ending
games of light and shade. Everyone will speak to you of
the poet, Racine, who lived in Paris, but who said of Uzès,
"The nights are even more beautiful than our days".
A little further on, beyond the town of Pont Saint Esprit,
is the beginning of the Ardèche Valley, with its
superb cliff road which follows the course of the steep
gorges through which the river of the same name flows.
At each bend of this winding road, you will discover new,
different and astonishing panoramas. The spates of the Ardèche
are violent and sudden, but most of the time the river is
peaceful and it is possible to swim in its waters and sunbathe
on its beaches.
